Dragon Elevator Operator
About
As part of a school project, I developed a concept for an interactive elevator screen for the LEGOLAND Hotel, based on a fictive case for ProInteraktiv. The solution was to turn a short elevator ride into a playful and memorable micro-experience for children and families.
The concept centres around a friendly LEGO-inspired dragon who “operates” the elevator. When guests press a floor button, the dragon pulls a lever on screen and the illustrated landscape moves up or down using a parallax effect, simulating the feeling of travelling through a LEGO kingdom. At the top of the screen, a simple visual indicator/arrow shows how far the elevator has progressed.
Children can interact directly with the dragon by touching the screen, triggering small animations such as sneezing fire, waving its arm or playful idle movements where it shifts from one foot to the other. The intention was to create moments of surprise and delight, making waiting time feel shorter and memorable.
The dragon character is inspired by LEGOLAND’s mascot. On a personal note, the design was influenced by my childhood memories of LEGO Castle sets, where the dragon was always my favourite figure.
At the time, we had not seen a solution that combined interactive touch, character-driven animation and elevator motion feedback in one experience. Installations existed with similar features separately, but not as a unified concept, as far as our research had shown.

How it is made
I designed the dragon characterand the UI elements in the front layer wich consisted of animated vector illustrations in Adobe Illustrator combined with After Effects. The background environments were created by my group members, who also implemented the parallax effect as directed by myself and programmed our prototype.
